I think you must be responding to a different post. Anyway, an error like you're describing would make a renewal registration void. Say the notice in a film was 1959, but the renewal read "in notice: 1958", then the renewal wouldn't count.

You're right, sorry. I do have a particular film in mind that has exactly that error in the original registration.
